As part of the validation process, an accredited third-party certifier, DNV Climate Change Service, made a site visit to Maputo 19^th to 21^st of February. The visit included meetings with local authorities and stakeholders as well as the interviews with the project implementer, AVSI Foundation. The successful site visit brought the project one step closer to the final validation and registration as CDM project. Good work!

The project splits to separate CDM and Gold Standard projects

The cooking stove project in Mozambique was planned originally to be developed as one CDM Programme of Activites. For the operational reasons the project partners has decided to be split the project into two separate projects, the first one with Gold Standard and the following one with CDM. From now on you can follow in this blog also the proceedings of the new Gold Standard project!

Global Stakeholder Consultation for the Project in Mozambique

The Program of Activities - PoA and the first project foreseen to be implemented under it (CPA 1 "Domestic Cooking Stoves in Maputo (Mozambique) for the Improvement Cooking Stoves Project in Maputo, are published on the UNFCCC web site for the Global Stakeholder Consultation. The consultation process, the period when everybody can comment the proposed project activity, is open for comments until 20th of February 2014.

In the end of February 2014, after the public consultation will been finished, an accredited third-party certifier, DNV Climate Change Service, will make a site visit to the project area in Maputo, Mozambique. The Global Stakeholder Consultation as well as the site visit and project document review made by third-party certifier are all a part of the project validation process. It is a fundamental initial phase of the carbon projects as it confirms that the project is planned and documented in accordance with the requirements of the CDM as set out in CDM modalities and procedures and that the project emission reductions are estimated in accordance with the applied CDM Methodology.

Distribuzione nuovi piani di cottura

La scorsa settimana, in occasione della visita a Chamanculo C del sindaco David Simango, è stato dato il via alla consegna delle prime stufe migliorate alle famiglie della comunità.

Il prossimo passo è la programmazione delle attività di educazione ambientale rivolte alle famiglie che hanno ricevuto il nuovo piano di cottura.

Carcoal Situation in Maputo

In Maputo the charcoal market is really fragmented thanks to next door charcoal market.

During my interview with one of the main reseller in Xipamanine they explained that charcoal used in the barrio come from the northen region in the Area of GAZA.

Like in a classic commercial distribution channel we have 4 levels of intermediary:

1. Producers

2. Main Resellers and distributor

3. Barrio Shops

4. Next door small shops

Maputo Situation:

Consume: around 80 kg charcoal per/family in a Month

Family Budget: 30 euro charcoal per/month

Conclusioni della missione

Si è conclusa con successo il 17 settembre 2012 la missione di Carbon Sink Group in Mozambico.

Il team di missione costituito da Andrea Maggiani e Manuele Micocci, ha effettuato un sopra luogo nei due quartieri in cui si sta sviluppando il progetto, promosso da Fondazione AVSI, che prevede l'introduzione di 15.000 piani di cottura migliorati.

E' stato mostrato il nuovo forno ad alta efficienza energetica, ed è stato verificato il coinvolgimento a 360° della comunità locale. Infatti sia le autorità locali che i cittadini hanno partecipato con entusiasmo ed interesse alle riunioni e dimostrazioni che hanno avuto luogo, come da programma, durante la settimana di missione.

Il nuovo piano di cottura è stato anche testato dalla popolazione locale, e sembra essere adeguato ai loro tradizionali metodi di cottura. Questo fa ben sperare nella riuscita del progetto e del suo accreditamento come progetto Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) presso l’UNFCCC.

Questa mattina siamo andati nel secondo quartiere di Xipamanine che conta 24.600 abitanti.

Durante l'incontro abbiamo presentato agli abitanti il nuovo piano di cottura, la curiosità e le domande sono state molte, grazie allo staff della ONG CANDELO e a Helio e Martinez di AVSI Foundation è stato un grande successo!!
